My projects visually relate to folk art and children’s art for their visual splendor, their vibrant colours, and their reference to the joy of creating.  Popular Culture and mass media inform my work with their impact on my life experience as a North American woman, a feminist, and a student of culture and ritual.  My themes explore gender roles and icons within the past and current history of Northwestern society as well as  in folk tales and mythology; I particularly enjoy the comparing of contrasting  roles.

I have a non-elitist approach to art making reflected in my use of craft as a medium.  I firmly believe in the notion of “art for art’s sake”, and use my work as a creator and an educator to push for people to feel entitled to their own creativity, as well as to the enjoyment of art.  My hope is to create objects that are welcoming and accessible, that do not alienate or intimidate but instead open a dialogue with the viewer about the way I see the world.
